"Snapshots from a life"

That is the current title of this blog. Will it stay that way? Honestly I have no idea. I'm hoping for a stroke of literary genius to strike me in the shower, or somewhere else where epiphanies regularly happen, and give me a more clever, witty title. Until then, this simple title serves it's purpose as a simple title, of a simple blog, with simple goals.

What is this "simple blog" that you have somehow come across? Well here is a little of background information to help you better understand what I hope to make of this.

I read a book once that was given to me by a good friend called "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff and It's All Small Stuff: Simple ways to Keep the Little Things from Taking Over Your Life" (click to see Google Book Preview). In this book, there are simple suggestions to help improve your daily life. The very first tip is to not sweat the small stuff and to realize that it is ALL small stuff.

As a college student, I have a lot of challenges to face. I am learning how to function as an independent adult, and that can be overwhelming at times. I've been diagnosed with clinical depression and for 3 years of my life, I let that get the better of me. I let all of the "small stuff" in my life build up and up until there was no more room for it to go and it all became this giant monster that was my "life". I struggled to find reasons to get out of bed and keep going. Through the help of some amazing people (family, friend's, roommates, faculty, and other university staff members) I managed to recently find hope in life.

While cleaning my room in an attempt to fix some of the literal clutter that had built up, I stumbled across that book. It gave me inspiration, but better than that, it gave me an idea. Everyone and their sister has created a blog these days-I have tried and failed myself, but this time I am going to keep with it. I am currently pursing a BFA with a concentration in photography, so as time goes on and I take more photography classes and buy better cameras, my pictures will improve.

For now, I want to integrate my old love for photography, my freshly renewed love for life, and (as a start) the inspiration that I have found in this book to bring myself, and hopefully others, a reminder of the wonderful things we all have going for us at the end of the day. Maybe I can help some other people get out of bed and keep going.

Each post will include a new chapter, my interpretation of that chapter, and a picture that I see fitting to the subject.

I hope I'm not infringing on any copyrights by mentioning this book and using things from it, but if I am and you find me-please don't sue me. I give Richard Carlson, PH.D all of the credit for the book and the excerpts that I take from it. I will remove/change anything if I need to. I honestly don't understand the legal workings behind this kind of thing.

Hope to see you soon with tip number 1, which is -Don't sweat the small stuff.

All the best,
Cat
